Made of 3/16” aluminum plate, this biomorphic form appears to be ready to walk away. The combination of mechanical and organic references makes for a unique contemporary public art sculpture that seems vaguely familiar yet difficult to identify. “Split Decision” is the result of many experiments using the original form of a sprocket. By reexamining the original shapes, bending, subtracting, and shifting the weight to imply movement; the sculpture arrives at its own unique character. The arching shape references a figure reaching back or something organic in the repetition of projecting limbs. The piece has an undulating, brushed aluminum surface that comes alive with reflected light.
