Reconfiguration
2001, Corten steel, silicon bronze, H 10’ x W 10’ x D 5’
Newport Art Museum, Newport, RI

Reconfiguration is a large-scale contemporary metal sculpture located on the lawn outside the Newport Art Museum located on Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. It is an abstract composition that finds its formal origins in the realm of mechanical objects although its twisting curvilinear arms allude to something more organic. The central part of the sculpture is made of Corten steel which is highly resistant to corrosion. The eight tips on the end of each arm is made of silicon bronze. A red/brown patina on the steel and golden, polished surface of the bronze relate directly to the Museum’s Griswold House which is a national historic landmark.
